Men's Lacrosse Has Seven Selected to NEILA Preseason All-New England Teams

WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption men's lacrosse goalie Colby Hamwey (West Yarmouth, Mass. / Wilbraham & Monson), short-stick defenseman Mike Leonard (Westwood, Mass. / Westwood) and faceoff specialist Connor Reid (Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater Raynham Regional) were named to the 2019 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All New England Preseason First-Team, highlighting seven total selections.

Assumption had the second-most players picked by the association out of any team with seven total selections and three first-team selections. Merrimack led with nine total selections and six first-team selections. Travis Reid (Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater Raynham) and Dan Farrell (Norwood, Mass. / Norwood) earned second-team honors at attack while midfielder Brett Jennings (Montgomery, N.Y. / Valley Central) and defenseman Tim Tierney (Framingham, Mass. / Framingham) also earned second-team honors. 

Last season, Hamway started 13 games in net last season, playing to a 7-5 record with a 55.2 save percentage and 9.52 goals against average. Leonard produced 33 ground balls and caused nine turnovers along with one assist. Connor Reid picked up 81 ground balls and caused seven turnovers while maintaining a 53.1 faceoff rate (153-for-288).

Travis Reid produced 32 goals and 19 assists for 51 points in 12 games last season. He is five points away from setting the Assumption scoring record, totaling 92 goals, 56 assists and 148 points throughout his career. Farrell produced 29 goals and 20 assists for 49 points in 13 games. He has 69 goals and 50 assists for 119 points throughout his career. Last year Jennings recorded 23 goals and 11 assists for 34 points in 13 games as a midfielder. He also had eight ground balls and caused two turnovers. Tierney, meanwhile, picked up 36 ground balls and caused 21 turnovers in 13 games.

The Hounds began their 2019 season with a 15-8 loss to No. 4 Adelphi. They face off against Felician at Post University on Saturday, February 23, at 2 p.m.
