WORCESTER, Mass. – Seniors Brendan Philippon (Salem, N.H. / Philadelphia Flyers (USPHL Premier)) and John Fine-Lease (Willsboro, N.Y. / Walpole Express (EHL)) along with rising juniors Chase Davenport (Princeton, Mass. / East Coast Wizards (EHL)) and Devan Sheth (Ashland, Mass. / Islanders Hockey Club (USPHL Premier)) of the Assumption University men's ice hockey team, were named 2019-2020 Academic All-Stars by the American Hockey Coaches Association (AHCA) on Tuesday afternoon. To qualify, a student-athlete must have attained a 3.75 GPA for the fall semester and participated in 40% of their school's games.
"I am very proud of these four men for receiving AHCA Academic All-Star Honors. They lead by example both on the ice and in the classroom. We continue to strive for academic excellence every year. These Greyhounds went above and beyond and that hard work paid off," said head coach Michael Looney.
Philippon served as a 2019-20 team captain and appeared in 26 games. He finished the season with 11 points from five goals and six assists. He posted a total of 57 shots, scored two power play goals and one game-winning goal. Philippon earned AHCA Academic All-Star honors all four years.
Fine-Lease appeared in a career-high 28 games and recorded a career-high 11 points from four goals and seven assists. He tallied 43 total shots, scored one power play goal and finished the season with a +5 rating.
Davenport appeared in 11 games and recorded one assist. He finished the season with five total shots. His assist came in a 6-4 victory at Stonehill on Nov. 8th.
Sheth appeared in 22 games and recorded 17 points from 15 assists and two goals. He finished the season with 44 total shots and a +10 rating. He was named the NE10 Player of the Week in week eight of the season after tallying one goal and two assists in Assumption's conference win over Saint Michael's.
