Men's Ice Hockey Earns Big Win Over Saint Anselm

THE BASICS: 

-Score: Assumption 4, Saint Anselm 1

-Records: Assumption (12-7-4, 9-3-2 NE10), Saint Anselm (11-10-2, 6-5-2 NE10)

-Location: Worcester, Mass. (Buffone Arena)

-The Lead: The Assumption Greyhounds played strong on all-fronts against a tough Saint Anselm Hawks, scoring three straight goals and winning 4-1 on Saturday night at Buffone Arena. The Hounds have now gone 11 games without a loss.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-The Hounds scored twice in the first period, leading 2-0 by its end. Brendan Philippon (Salem, N.H. / Philadelphia Flyers (USPHL Premier)) earned a rebound shot and placed it into the back of the net for a 1-0 lead at 16:08. Just under two minutes later, Michael Zampanti (Winthrop, Mass. / Islanders Hockey Club (USPHL Premier)) went into the offensive zone while on the breakaway and with Dante Maribito (Georgetown, Mass. / Phillips Academy (Prep)) by his side. He dished it off to Maribito, who found a wide open right side of the net, putting the Hounds up 2-0 to end the first period.

-Philippon added his second goal of the game at the 18:37 mark of the second period, topping off three-straight goals for the Hounds, this time scoring on the power play. Matt Chisholm scored Saint Anselm's only goal of the game at the 19:01 mark of the second, pulling within two at 3-1, but Assumption scored at the 7:26 mark of the third to move ahead by three again, this time to come to a 4-1 final.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Assumption outshot the Hawks 34-32. Saint Anselm went 0-for-6 while on the power play and the Hounds went 2-for-8.

-Maribito led the Hounds with two goals and two assists for four points, while also going +4 while on the ice. Philippon added two goals and Robert Holyoke (Middleboro, Mass. / South Shore Kings (USPHL Premier)) three assists.

-David Altman (Bristol, R.I. / Northern Cyclones (EHL)) largely won the game for the Hounds by making 31 saves on 32 shots to improve to 8-2-0 on the year. Michael Soustal made 30 saves on 34 shots, but fell to 4-4-0 on the year.

-The Hounds have now gone a span of 11 games without a defeat and defeated a tough team to do so. Saturday marked only the fifth time in program history the Hounds defeated Saint Anselm, who currently sit in fourth place in the NE10 standings. Assumption is second, only one point behind first-place Saint Michael's.
