Men's Ice Hockey's Comeback Ends in Tie With Worcester St.

THE BASICS:

- The Lead: A goal by Worcester St.'s Matthew Manning with 1:23 left in the third period ended a three-goal comeback rally by the Assumption Greyhounds and ended Saturday's cross-town rivalry game in a 5-5 tie.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-Manning's goal ended a late comeback for the Hounds, who scored four straight goals, including three in the third period, to go up 5-4. Manning's game-tying goal was his second goal of the game, also putting his team up 4-2 in the second period.

-The Hounds' comeback started at the 19:33 mark of the second period following Manning's goal. Elliot McGuire (Reading, Mass. / Truro Bearcats (MJAHL)) brought the game to within two at 4-2 to end the second period. His goal then sparked three straight goals for the Hounds in the third period. William Smith (Hyde Park, Mass. / Williston Northampton School) brought the game within one just four minutes into the period. Brendan Philippon (Salem, N.H. / Philadelphia Flyers (USPHL Premier)) tied the game while on the power play just 3:07 later and John McDonagh (Latrobe, Pa. / Shady Side Academy (Prep)) gave the Hounds their first lead of the game at the 16:02 mark for his team's third power play goal of the game. Dante Maribito (Georgetown, Mass. / Phillips Academy (Prep)) scored his team's first power play goal of the game, pulling the game to within one at 2-1 in the second after the Lancers ended the first period up 2-0.

 INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Assumption outshot the Lancers 35-33. Worcester St. went 1-for-5 while on the power play. The Hounds went 3-for-4.

-Maribito now has three goals and three assists on the year. He has tallied at least one point in five out of his first seven games this season.

-McGuire added one goal and two assists against the Lancers, netting his first points of the 2019-20 season. McGuire has now played in three games this season. McDonagh added one goal and two assists for his first points of the season as well.

-Drew Benedict (Cooper City, Fla. / Charlotte Rush (USPHL)) started for the Hounds and made 16 saves on 20 shots. David Zulauf (Rochester, Mich. / Bridgton Academy (Prep)) finished for the Hounds and made 12 saves on 13 shots. Blake Bjella made 30 saves on 35 shots for the Lancers.
