Five Unanswered Goals Lead Hounds to 5-4 Win over Southern N.H.

THE BASICS:

- The lead: After going down by as many as four goals, the Assumption Greyhounds crawled their way back into things and eventually took the lead and the game on Saturday night, scoring five unanswered goals to defeat the Southern N.H. Pennmen 5-4 at Buffone Arena.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-The Hounds scored three straight in the third period to go on top 5-4. Robert Roche (Holden, Mass. / Tri City Storm (USHL)) scored the game-winning goal at the 18:05 mark on a rebound shot, assisted by Peter McDonagh (Latrobe, Pa. / Shady Side Academy (Prep)) and Dante Maribito (Georgetown, Mass. / Phillips Academy (Prep)). Brendan Philippon (Salem, N.H. / Philadelphia Flyers (USPHL Premier)) previously tied the game at four at the 6:34 mark, while Jared Bernis (Melrose, Mass. / Boston Jr. Rangers (EHL)) pulled the Hounds within one just 20 seconds into the third period.

-The Hounds trailed 4-2 by the end of the second period. Southern N.H. pulled ahead 4-0 on goals by Ryan Spagnoli and Charlie Davis within the first two minutes of the period. The Hounds then scored the first two of their five unanswered goals, beginning with Mike D'Ambrosio's (Centreville, Md. / Williston Northampton School)) goal at 3:41. Christopher Stalmok (Paxton, Mass. / Boston Jr. Bruins (USPHL Premier)) then scored at the 12:10 mark to pull within two at 4-2.

-The Hounds ended the first period down 2-0. Southern N.H.'s Joseph Berard scored at the 13:46 mark. With several players out front trying to gain possession of the puck, Berard came away with it and put the puck into the back of the net for his third goal of the year. Then at the 15:59 mark, just nine seconds into the power play, Chris Moquin scored on a shot that hit the top cross bar and down to put his team up 2-0.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption outshot Southern N.H. 31-17. The Hounds were 1-for-6 on the power play, while the Pennmen were 1-for-4.

-Roche's goal was his second goal on the year and second game-winner of the season. He scored the game-winning goal in a 5-1 win over Framingham St. back on November 13.

-Maribito now has three goals and two assists in his last four games. He has netted at least one point in five of his last six games.

-Bernis and D'Ambrosio both netted their first goal and point of their collegiate careers.

-Robbie Campbell (Raritan, N.J. / New England Stars (NA3HL)) made four saves on eight shots, while David Zulauf (Rochester, Mich. / Bridgton Academy (Prep)) made nine saves on nine shots. For the Pennmen, Kurt Gutting made 18 saves on 22 shots and JT Kossakowski made seven saves on eight shots.
