Hounds Begin Season With 4-2 Win Over Suffolk

THE BASICS:

-Score: Suffolk 1, Assumption 0

-Records: Suffolk (1-0-0, 0-0-0 NEHC), Assumption (0-0-0, 0-0-0 NE10)

-Location: Worcester, Mass. (Buffone Arena)

-The Lead: Backed by two goals from freshman Robert Holyoke (Middleboro, Mass. South Shore Kings (USPHL Premier)) and a short-handed goal by Dante Tomassini (North Branford, Conn. / Connecticut Jr. Wolfpack (EHL)), the Assumption Greyhounds came away with a 4-2 win over the Suffolk Rams on opening night of the 2018-19 season.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-The Rams led 1-0 at the end of the first period. Mikhail Bryan scored his first goal of the year while his team was on the power play at the 7:23 mark.

-The Hounds scored three times in the second to grab the advantage. Holyoke scored two power play goals in the period, with his first just 27 seconds into the period. Assumption then fell behind 2-1, however, Tomassini came through with a short-handed breakaway goal when the Hounds were on a 5-on-3 to even the score up at 11:22. Holyok finished the scoring with a wrister past the shoulder of the goalie for a 3-2 lead hust over three minutes later. 

- Senior Matt Damelio (Rochester, N.Y. / Northwood (Prep)) added an insurance goal for the Hounds seven seconds into the third period on a goal in front of the net off a nice feed from Tomassini to provide the 4-2 advantage. The Assumption defense did the rest to provide the sesaon-opening victory. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Suffolk outshot Assumption 40-35 despite the loss. The Hounds went 2-for-11 on the power play while the Rams went 1-for-10, as the two teams combined for 26 penalties.

-Holyoke finished the game with two goals, while Tomassini finished the game with one goal and two assists. Damelio finished the game with one goal and one assist.

-Junior David Zulauf (Rocherster, Mich. / Bridgton Academy (Prep)) made 38 saves for the Hounds and improved to 1-0-0 on the year. Will Ribas made 35 saves for the Rams but fell to 1-1-0 on the year.

-The Hounds had previously not beaten the Rams since November 5, 2010.

-The Hounds are on the road tomorrow, October 28, for a 4 p.m. start against Becker.
