Men’s Golf Leads NEIGA Championship After Opening Round

THE BASICS:

- Location: The Captains Course – Starboard (Brewster, Mass.)

- The Lead: Assumption shot a 317, behind an impressive day from junior Mark Bryant (Hardwick, N.J. / North Warren Regional), to take a five-stroke lead after the opening round in the 84th annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Bryant shot a 3-over 75 on the day to take a two-stroke lead over Ellis Yoder of Bentley, as he lead all players with four birdies. Freshman Lucas Roop (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) finished with a 79 on the day to tie for eighth overall.

- Senior James Elliott (Gill, Mass. / Pioneer Valley Regional) shot an 81 to tie for tenth, while sophomore Andrew Sanzaro (Wethersfield, Conn. / Wethersfield) shot an 82. Classmate Ryan Fillebrown (Ayer, Mass. / Saint Bernard's) came through with a solid round of 85 as the fifth golfer on the day.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Assumption was 29-over with a 317, but still placed five strokes ahead of Saint Anselm, who had a 322. AIC was one shot back with a 323.

- The Hounds return to action tomorrow when the look to maintain their advantage and took home the Championship trophy
