- The Lead: Assumption had each of its top four golfer shoot a 75 or lower to move into a tied for third place after the first day of the NE10 Championships, as the Hounds shot a 297 overall at En-Joie Golf Course on Sunday.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Freshman Lucas Roop (Gorham, Maine / Gorham) continued his strong recent play, leading the Hounds with a 1-over 73 to tie for eighth overall. Roop finished third among all golfers with 15 pars and added a birdie as well in his 18 holes.
- Junior Zach Magarian (Worcester, Mass. / West Boylston) was second among Assumption golfers with a 74 to tie for 13th. Just one stroke behind him was sophomore Andrew Sanzaro (Wethersfield, Conn. / Wethersfield) and junior Mark Bryant (Hardwick, N.J. / North Warren Regional) who both shot a 75.
- Senior James Elliott (Gill, Mass. / Pioneer Valley Regional) rounded out the top five scorers for Assumption with an 82.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Assumption is tied with Franklin Pierce and Le Moyne who also shot a 297 on Sunday. Southern New Hampshire came in with a 2-under 286, behind a 66 from Matt Paradis to hold a two-shot lead over Bentley, who has a 288.
- This marks the second straight year the Hounds were tied for third after the opening day. In 2017 they shot a 298 on the opening day to tie with Franklin Pierce. They concluded the NE10 Tournament in fifth last year with a 607 overall.
