The Lead: After the first day of play in the AIC Invitational, Matt Wessenberg (Medway, Mass./ Catholic Memorial) placed first for the Hounds by shooting a 75, which led Assumption men's golf to first place shooting a 307 (+19).
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Wessenberg shot a four-over 75, and led the invitational in birdies with four.
- AJ Cooney (North Branford, Conn. / North Branford) and sophomore James Elliot (Gill, Mass. / Pioneer Valley Regional) tied for fifth overall shooting a 77 in the first day of play.
- Austin McCreary (Northhampton, Mass./ Northhampton) and Justin Clutter (Bedford, N.H/ Bedford) shot just one stroke behind Cooney and Elliot to tie for eighth place overall
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- All Assumption golfers placed in the top ten of the invitational after the first day.
- The Hounds led the invitational in birdies with 15.
- American International and Bentley tied for second in the invitational shooting a 309, while Saint Anselm took fourth with a 333, and Adelphi took fifth shooting a 341.
