THE BASICS

-The Lead: The Assumption College men's basketball team suffered a setback to the Hawks of Saint Anselm College in a Northeast-10 Conference contest on Wednesday evening. The Hawks held a 13-point advantage at the half and edged the Hounds in scoring, 39-33 in the second to claim the final 86-67 victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-After trading baskets over the first two minutes of play, the Hawks went on a nine-point run to pull ahead 16-8 with 14:29 on the clock. The visitors led by as many as 16 in the first half, as four different players put up double-digits in the first 20 minutes.

-Assumption used a six-point run, including a pair of layups by red-shirt junior Jordan White (Prince Frederick, Md. / Clinton Christian School), to pull back within 10 with 2:16 on the clock, 40-30. Senior Danny Evans knocked down a three before the buzzer to give Saint Anselm the 47-34 advantage heading into the halftime break.

-White led the Hounds in the first half with 14 points on 5-for-8 shooting from the field, including two baskets from beyond the arc.

-White and sophomore Cal Connelly (Rochester, N.H. / Spaulding / Tilton) hit back-to-back threes and red-shirt junior Malik Brown (Waldorf, Md. / Northpoint) made a drive to the basket in the opening minutes of the second half to bring the Hounds within six, 56-50.

-The Hawks pulled ahead by 13 on a three by junior Chris Paul at the 5:42 mark, 73-60. They finished the game on a 13-2 run to take home the final 86-67 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-White finished with a double-double as he put up 21 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the setback. Brown and junior Matthew Kelly (North Potomac, Md. / Quince Orchard) each put up 10 points for the Hounds.

-Paul finished the night with a game-leading 24 points to lead the Hawks to victory. Junior Gustav Suhr-Jessen added 21 points while first year Tyler Arbuckle and Evans put up 17 and 16 points respectively for the visitors.

-Assumption shot 33.3% (23-for-69) from the field and finished 9-for-24 from three-point range. Saint Anselm finished shooting 45.6% (31-for-68) from field goal range and went 7-for-22 from beyond the arc.

-The Hawks outrebounded Assumption 47-38.
