Men's Basketball Falls in Conference Match-up to Golden Knights

THE BASICS

-The Lead: The Assumption College men's basketball team fell to the Golden Knights of Saint Rose College in a Northeast-10 Conference match-up on the road on Saturday evening. Saint Rose outscored Assumption 54-31 in the first half, but the Hounds outscored the hosts 43-39 in the final 20 minutes.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-After the game saw three ties the Golden Knights pulled ahead by 11, with 5:38 on the clock, in a seven-point run that was sparked by a three-pointer by first year Manasseh Small (34-23). Sophomore Tyler Washington knocked down a three to extend their lead to 12 with 5:10 to play, 37-25.

-Red-shirt junior Malik Brown (Waldorf, Md. / Northpoint) made two drives to the basket before the buzzer as the Golden Knights took a 54-31 lead heading into the halftime break.

-Brown kicked off scoring in the second half with a move to the basket to bring the Hounds within 19.

-Red-shirt junior Jordan White ( Prince Frederick, Md. / Clinton Christian School) added five points under the six minute mark to bring the Hounds within 17, 81-64. Freshman Isiah Gaiter (Meriden, Conn. / Sacred Heart High School / Huntington Prep) hit a three and a jumper to bring the visitors within 15, but Saint Rose held on for the final 93-74 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Brown led Assumption with 22 points and eight rebounds in the setback. White came off the bench with 15 points and eight rebounds for Assumption. Gaiter rounded out double-digit scoring for the Hounds with 12 points.

-Sophomore Sekou Sylla recorded a double-double with 20 points and 10 rebounds for Saint Rose. Junior Adam Anderson finished with 18 points and freshman Cartier Bowman added 17 points and nine rebounds for the hosts.

-Assumption shot 40.5% from the field and went 5-for-25 from beyond the arc. Saint Rose shot 59.3% from field goal range and went 8-for-15 from three-point range.

-The Golden Knights outrebounded the Hounds, 46-31.

-The game saw a total of eight ties and four lead changes.
