WORCESTER, Mass. – Freshman Michael Speight (Morningside, Md. / Wise / Canterbury) was impressive against No. 4 Saint Anselm over the weekend and was subsequently honored as the Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WACBA) Rookie of the Week.

Speight went off for a career-high 20 points on 8-for-13 shooting with two rebounds, one assist and one block while guarding All-American Tim Guers for much of the contest. The freshman also hit all three of his free throws as the Hounds were edged by eight points, 78-70, in the contest.

This marks the second time this year Assumption has had a player earn WACBA honors, as Cal Connelly (Rochester, N.H. / Spaulding / Tilton) was also named Rookie of the Week (11/13). To view the complete weekly WACBA release, click here.
