Cal Connelly Named WACBA Rookie of the Week

WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption freshman Cal Connelly (Rochester, N.H. / Spaulding / Tilton) was honored as the Worcester Area College Basketball Association (WABCA) Rookie of the Week after helping the Hounds to a 2-0 mark last weekend.

Connelly was the lone Assumption freshman to start both games for Assumption as the team opened the year 2-0 for the first time since the 2015-16 season. He averaged 9.0 points and 3.5 rebounds per game while shooting 38.5 percent from the floor. In his first game he scored seven points with five rebounds in a 15-point win over Molloy. He followed it up with 11 points, including five straight in the second half to put the game away, and two boards in a 17-point victory over Concordia.

Junior Branislav Vujadinovic (Belgrade, Serbia / St. Joseph) was selected to the WACBA Weekly Honor Roll after averaging 20.5 points per game while shooting 76.2 percent from the floor and 60 percent from downtown, in addition to 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals and 1.5 assists per game.

Assumption looks to improve its mark to 3-0 when the team travels to face Merrimack in its conference opener on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
