Field Hockey Heads to Stonehill for NE10 Quarterfinals

WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption Field Hockey has earned their sixth consecutive trip to the NE10 tournament this year and look to take their third-straight trip to the semifinals when they travel to the No. 4 seed Stonehill tomorrow for a 1 p.m. start.

Last Time Out

The Hounds ended their regular season on Saturday with a trip to Saint Michael's. Assumption earned their eleventh shutout of the season and ninth conference shutout. Four different Hounds scored in the victory while goalkeeper Kylie Gargiulo recorded five saves. Assumption tallied 36 shots and 12 penalty corners in the matchup and allowed only nine shots and three penalty corners against them.

The Past

In the last ten meetings of these two teams, Assumption has won three. The Hounds have lost to Stonehill twice in overtime over the past four years and have faced the Skyhawks two other times in the NE10 tournament, and in 2017 earned the upset victory to move on to the NE10 finals. The last time the Hounds beat Stonehill was last year on September 4 in a 3-1 victory. In the last ten meetings, the Skyhawks have outscored the Hounds 16-13.

Last Time Out: Stonehill

Stonehill ended their regular season on Friday with a 3-0 win over Mercy. In the win, all the Skyhawks goals came in the second half with two in the third quarter and one in the fourth. Goalkeeper Katie Lammando earned the win with three saves while the Skyhawks tallied 25 shots and 20 penalty corners to Mercy's five shots and five penalty corners. The Skyhawks have recorded a total of five shutouts on the season.

Scouting the Skyhawks

Stonehill is ranked fifth in the region with a 11-5 record and riding a four-game win streak dating back to Oct. 23. Sophomore Olivia Cameron leads the Skyhawks with 20 points on eight goals and four assists while Emma Mawn has 18 points (6G, 6A), Mackenzie Quigley has 13 points (5G, 3A), Sophie Schreck has 12 points (4G, 4A), Elisha Brinkman has 11 points (4G, 3A) and Michaela Antonellis has 10 points (4G, 2A). Junior Katie Lammando has a save percentage of .743 with five shutouts this season. As a team, Stonehill is fifth in the conference with 39 goals and third in the NE10 with 140 penalty corners.

Scouting the Hounds

The Hounds enter the NE10 Quarterfinals on a two-game win streak with no goals allowed. Assumption is currently ranked eighth in the nation and fourth in the region with a 15-3 overall record. The Hounds are led by junior Deirdre Burchill with 33 points on 14 goals and five assists making her second in the conference for both points and goals. Burchill is followed by Summer Walsh with 22 points (10G, 2A), Courtney Sickel with 20 points (8G, 4A), Jenny Beardsley with 15 points (7G, 1 A), Shannon Quinlan with 12 points (4G, 4A) and Jenna Graf with 11 points (2G, 7A). The Hounds have a total of 15 athletes with at least one goal on the season. Sophomore Kylie Gargiulo has a save percentage of .836 with ten shutouts making her second in the NE10 for both save percentage and shutouts. As a team, the Hounds are second in the NE10 with 50 goals, third in assists with 30 and first in penalty corners with 162.
