-The Lead: Freshman Deirdre Burchill (Braintree, Mass./ NashobaRegional) beat Panther goaltender Amanda Gargulio in the 62nd minute to lead the Hounds to a 1-0 victory over Adelphi on Wednesday evening in an NE10 conference contest.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The game remained scoreless through the first half as both teams tallied three corners, but Assumption out shot Adelphi by two.
- With 8:43 left in the game, Burchill broke the tie when she received a pass near the far side of the shooting circle and made a move past the defender to get 1-on-1 with the goalie Gargulio. She faked right and then Gargiulo charged to making a diving stop, but Burchill went back to her left and past the goalie, before tapping it in for the game-winner.
- The Adelphi offense had a push in the second half, resgistering four penalty corners in attempt to take the lead but the Hounds' defense held on to the shutout.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Hound goaltender Sarah Bodzinski (Southwick, Mass./ Southwick Tolland Regional) made two saves to record her third shutout of the season while Gargulio made six saves in the loss. Assumption tallied eight corners and only gave up four to the Panthers
