WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption senior quarterback Cody Williams (Wilbraham, Mass. / Springfield Central) has been awarded the New England Football Writers Association DII/III Gold Helmet Award, presented by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, following an impressive performance last week.

Williams accounted for six touchdowns and almost 400 yards of total offense while sitting out the final 20 minutes of the game as he led Assumption to a 54-9 victory over AIC on Saturday. The senior completed his first six passes on the day and finished 27-for-34 (79%) for a career-high 360 yards and five touchdowns without an interception. The 27 completions tied the school record, jointly held by Chad Carges (1999) and Andrew Kupec (2010), while the five touchdown passes was the second-highest total in school history. The senior also rushed for 23 yards and a score.

This marks the fourth consecutive year an Assumption football player has earned the award. Quarterback Marc Monks (Annandale, N.J. / North Hunterdon) won the Golf Helmet Award in 2015 and 2017, while former safety Andrew Benson '17 took home the honors in 2016.

Assumption has a bye this week and returns to action on Saturday, Oct. 13 when the Hounds host Southern Connecticut at 1 p.m.
