WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption Head Football Coach Andy McKenzie is pleased to release his team's 2018 schedule, which begins in the friendly confines of Multi-Sport Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 1 at 1 pm against Kutztown.
Following the team's opening contest versus the Golden Bears, the Hounds travel to play Merrimack on Friday, Sept. 7. They return back home to host Saint Anselm on Friday at 7 pm under the lights. Assumption plays another Friday evening contest at Pace on Sept. 21 and then comes back to host AIC at 1 pm on Saturday, Sept. 29.
Every team in the Northeast 10 will be off the following weekend as part of the conference's bye week and Assumption will again play home on Saturday, Oct. 13 against Southern Connecticut. The Hounds travel to New Haven a week later before hosting 2016 NE10 Champion LIU Post during homecoming weekend, on Oct. 27 at 1 pm.
Assumption plays its final two games of the regular season on the road, traveling to Bentley on Nov. 3 and then facing off against Stonehill on Nov. 10 in the regular season finale. Following the final game of the year, the top seven teams in Super Region One will advance to the NCAA Division II Football Championship which opens up with First Round action on November 17. The top seed in each of the four regions will receive a bye in the first round, while all battle for a spot in the national Championship game on Saturday, December 15 at Children's Mercy Park in Kansas City, Kansas, the home of Major League Soccer's Sporting KC.
Assumption is coming off a record-breaking 11-2 campaign, including an 8-1 mark in the conference last year. The Hounds opened the 2017 season 9-0, before falling to Bentley in the last game of the regular season. However, they still clinched the NE10 Championship and entered the NCAA Tournament as the No. 3 seed in Super Region One. Assumption knocked off California (Pa.) in the opening round and then took down Findlay in the second round, before falling 27-22 to Indiana (Pa.) in the NCAA Quarterfinals. The Hounds finished the season ranked ninth in the final AFCA National Poll as 17 different players earned All-Conference honors and three were named All-Americans.
