Cory Bailey Resigns as Football Head Coach

Worcester, Mass. (January 21) -- Assumption College football head coach Cory Bailey has resigned from his position, effective immediately, as announced by Nick Smith, director of athletics. Bailey has accepted a position at Coastal Carolina University and the search for his successor will begin immediately.

"I would like to thank Cory for his dedication to the football program during his eight seasons at Assumption," said Smith. "He has made an impact on our student-athlete's lives both on and off the field and I wish Cory and his family all the best at Coastal Carolina."

Over eight seasons, Bailey directed the Hounds to a 32-50 overall mark. Highlighting his tenure were back-to-back winning seasons in 2009 and 2010 as the Hounds posted marks of 6-4 and 6-5. Highlighting the 2009 season were victories over a pair of Division I programs as the Hounds defeated Wagner College at home, along with a road victory at his alma mater, Fordham University.

"I am incredibly honored to have had the opportunity to be the head football coach at Assumption College," said Bailey. "Assumption has become part of my family and will always have a special place in my heart. I am extremely excited to see the program take the next step in its development towards becoming a perennial power in the Northeast-10. I am confident that the future is bright and Assumption College Football will continue to be a program that we can all be proud of."

During his tenure, Bailey coached 47 Northeast-10 All-Conference players, including 19 First Team selections. In addition, he coached three All-Rookie selections, two Rookies of the Year, two Offensive Players of the Year, one Defensive Player of the Year, one Offensive Lineman of the Year, 12 Academic All-Conference selections, 12 All-Region selections and five All-Americans.
