-The Lead: The Assumption College baseball team fell to the Tars of Rollins College in Winter Park, Fla. on Wednesday evening. The Tars used 11 runs in the final two innings to claim the final 13-1 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Rollins put up two unearned runs in the bottom of the first when Cameron Meehan and Devon Ortiz crossed home plate.
-After five scoreless innings, Assumption got one run on the board in the top of the seventh. Senior Jared Brescia (Brentwood, N.H. / Exeter) doubled to left center and came home on a sacrifice fly by first year Emilio Acosta (Cromwell, Conn. / East Catholic High).
-The Tars exploded for 11 runs over the eighth and ninth innings to claim the final 13-1 victory. Cameron Meehan homered in the bottom of the eighth inning for two RBIs.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS
-Brescia went 2-for-4 with one run scored for the Hounds.
-Adam Torres led the Tars at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one RBI and two runs scored.
-Freshman Shea Ryan (North Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) fell to 0-1 on the season as he went 6.2 innings on the mound for Assumption. He gave up three hits and six runs scored (four earned).
-Austin Long improved to 1-0 on the mound for Rollins as he went two innings and struck out one batter.
