-The Lead: The Assumption College baseball team shut out Concordia in the first game of their Florida trip. The Hounds used seven runs, including a three-run homer by freshman Emilio Acosta (Cromwell, Conn. / East Catholic High), in the top of the third to lift them to a 10-0 final victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED

-Assumption put one run up in the top of the second inning when senior Matt Schneider (Dalton, Mass. / Wahconah Regional) homered.

-The Hounds used seven runs in the top of the third to pull away, 8-0. Senior R.J. Libby (Middleton, Mass. / Bishop Fenwick) doubled to score sophomore Connor Wironen (Leominster, Mass. / Saint Bernard's) and senior Jared Brescia (Brentwood, N.H. / Exeter) (3-0). Sophomore Jake Hamel (Uxbridge, Mass. / Saint John's) earned two RBIs when he doubled to score junior Dillon Koster (Woburn, Mass. / Woburn / Marist College) and Libby (5-0). Acosta put a three-run homer out of the park for the 8-0 lead.

-Hamel doubled again in the seventh to score Koster and Brescia earned an RBI with a single that scored Acosta in the eighth for the final 10-0 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

-Hamel led the Hounds at the plate, going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one run scored. Acosta finished the day 1-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

-Joseph Impeduglia had three hits for Concordia while Matt Rinaldi had two.

-Junior Cole Chudoba (Oxford, Conn. / Oxford) improved to 2-0 on the season as he went 7.1 innings and struck out eight batters for the Hounds.

-Enrico Locascio took the loss on the mound for Concordia. He pitched five innings, allowed seven hits, eight runs (four earned), and struck out four batters.
