WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption baseball head coach Mike Rocco has announced Derek Adamson (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford), Jared Brescia (Brentwood, N.H. / Exeter), Philip Gaines (Cambridge, Mass. / Cambridge Rindge & Latin) and Matt Schneider (Dalton, Mass. / Wahconah Regional) as captains for the 2019-20 season.
Adamson, who captained the team last year, appeared in 46 games and hit to a slash line of .278/.390/.369. He hit two home runs with 30 RBIs and 36 runs. He also played a vital role in-game as a catcher for the Hounds.
Brescia, an infielder, hit to a slash line of .277/.408/.353 while scoring 24 runs and knocking in 17 with one home run. He also had a .976 fielding percentage, committing only five errors in 44 games.
Gaines has played a vital role in the team's overall success in the last three seasons, entering most games in the late innings as a pinch runner or defensive replacement. In 19 at-bats last season, Gaines hit to a slash line of .263/.333/.368. while scoring 11 runs.
Schneider, who split time between catcher and DH last season, hit to a slash line of .306/.412/.417 in 32 games and 72 at-bats. He scored 15 runs and knocked in 10 more with one home run during the 2018-19 season and did not commit an error throughout the entirety of the season.
