- The Lead: Matt Schneider (Dalton, Mass. / Wahconah Regional) made sure the nine Assumption Greyhound senior went home with a win on Senior Day. Pinch-hitting in the bottom of the 10th with the bases loaded, Schneider took a ball to the back that forced a run home from third to send the Hounds home with a 3-2 extra innings win over the Merrimack Warriors.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-With two outs in the bottom of the 10th, Derek Adamson (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) was hit by a pitch, moving Jake Hamel (Uxbridge, Mass. / Saint John's), who reached on a fielder's choice, to second. Philip Gaines (Cambridge, Mass. / Cambridge Rindge & Latin) then walked on five pitches, including four straight balls. With the bases loaded, Schneider, who entered the game with a .328 average, was summoned to pinch-hit, and was hit by a pitch to force the winning run home.

-The Hounds had led most of the game before using the hit by pitch to win in extra innings. Merrimack did not score until the eighth inning when they tied the game at two on two hits and an error. With runners in scoring position and one out, Joey Porricelli brought the game within one on a sacrifice fly to right. Nick Shumski then hit a weak ball down the right field line. Assumption pitcher Cole Chudoba (Oxford, Conn. / Oxford High School) got to the ball and with his only play to first, threw a low ball into the dirt that got by the first baseman that allowed the Warriors to tie the game at two.

-Assumption went up 2-0 in the sixth inning on a sacrifice fly to right following a triple by Kevin Quinlivan (Shrewsbury, Mass. / St. John's). They began the game up 1-0 when Adamson produced a run on an infield single in the bottom of the first.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Colton King (Westerly, R.I. / Moses Brown Prep) earned the win in relief for the Hounds, pitching the final two innings without allowing a hit or walk while striking out two. He improved to 2-0 with the win and dropped his ERA to 1.93 with his performance. He has now struck out 21 batters in 18.2 innings of relief and has allowed only seven hits in that span while pitching to a 0.86 WHIP. King piggy-backed off Chudoba's eight innings of two-run baseball where he allowed only five hits and one walk while striking out three.

-Quinlivan led the Hounds at the plate by going 2-for-4 with his triple and run. Four other players had one hit, while Matt Lonardo (Cranston, RI / Cranston High School) had two walks.

-With 25 wins, the Hounds have now won more games than any other team this decade, surpassing the previous mark by the 2010 Hounds that won 24 games. It is the most wins in program history since 2009 when the team won 33 games.
