- The Lead: The Assumption Greyhounds were tactful on the basepaths on Sunday against the No. 15 Southern N.H. Penmen, taking advantage of several errors while using 4 1/3 innings of scoreless relief from MacGuire O'Sullivan (Durham, Conn. / Coginchaug Regional) to win 5-3.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-Down 3-2 in the fifth, the Hounds had a runner on second with two out and three-hole R.J. Libby (Middleton, Mass. / Bishop Fenwick) at the plate. Libby sent one toward first and a low throw by Southern N.H. first baseman Sam Henrie got by pitcher Chris Murphy, which allowed Alex Richardson (Rehoboth, Mass. / Bishop Feehan) to come home and tie the game at three. A similar play happened back in the second that put the Hounds up 2-1. A throwing error allowed Hunter Tralli (Berlin, Conn. / Northwest Catholic) to take first and score one run. Richardson then singled in Tralli to make it 2-1 Assumption.

-After Libby reached and tied the game on an error, Murphy then went wild, hitting back-to-back batters to load the bases. A wild pitch allowed Libby to score from third, putting Assumption up 4-3. It was the last pitch Murphy would throw, leaving the game after 4 2/3 innings and picking up the loss.

-While the Hounds were taking advantage of their opportunities at the plate, O'Sullivan shut out the Penmen from coming back into the game. He pitched 4 1/3 innings of relief and earned the win, allowing only one hit and no walks. He came in in the fifth and immediately forced a groundout with runners on first and second to end the inning. He threw less than 10 pitches in the sixth and sat down the final six batters he faced after allowing a leadoff single in the eighth. The Hounds added one more as insurance for O'Sullivan in the bottom of the sixth on an RBI-single by Jared Brescia (Brentwood, N.H.  Exter) to make it 5-3.
