- The Lead: Playing at neutral site LeLaucher Park, home of the Lowell Spinners, Cam Monagle extended his scoreless streak to 24 innings and the Merrimack Warriors defeated the Assumption Greyhounds 9-0 in conference action on Tuesday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-Monagle entered the contest with a 17-inning scoreless streak and extended that to 24 by pitching seven shutout innings against the Hounds while scattering eight hits and one walk while striking out seven. Trevor Cooley pitched the eighth and struck out two while Riley Sorenson finished off the ninth by forcing a double play to complete the shutout.

-Assumption had an opportunity to strike in the fifth inning when Jared Brescia (Brentwood, N.H. / Exeter) singled to load the bases with one out. However, Monagle got the next two batters swinging and then looking to end the threat. The Hounds also had runners on first and second in the sixth with one out. Matt Lonardo (Cranston, RI / Cranston High School) moved them both into scoring position on a sacrifice bunt, but Monagle got the Hounds swinging to end another Assumption threat.

-The Hounds kept it close until the fifth inning. With Assumption down only 4-0, Merrimack's Nick Shumski extended the lead to five on a fielder's choice and error. With two outs and the bases loaded, Kurtis Stadnicki cleared the bases with a double down the right field line, putting Merrimack on top 8-0. William Keegan finished off the Warriors' five-run fifth with a single to score Stadnicki, moving Merrimack's lead to 9-0.
