THE BASICS:

- Score: Adelphi 14, Assumption 6

- Records: Adelphi (9-4, 1-0 NE10), Assumption (10-7, 0-1 NE10)

- Location: Garden City, N.Y. (William J Bonomo Memorial Field)

- The Lead: After gusting winds forced back first pitch by two hours and turned the day's doubleheader into a single game, Thomas Colombo went 2-for-4 at the plate with a triple and four RBIs and the Adelphi Panthers took advantage of four Assumption errors to defeat the Greyhounds 14-6 on Saturday afternoon in New York.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

-Colombo tripled and later came home on an error at third on the play to put Adelphi up 14-6 in the ninth inning. It was one of four errors by the Hounds that ultimately turned them in, allowing 14 runs but only six earned, throughout the course of the game.

-Up 4-3 in the fifth inning, pitcher Cole Chudoba (Oxford, Conn. / Oxford High School) allowed two runs to score by overthrowing first base on a ball hit back to him. With his team up 5-4, Colombo hit a sacrifice fly to put the Panthers up by two, 6-4, to end the inning.

-Assumption had led 4-0 to begin the game. Dillon Koster (Woburn, Mass. / Woburn / Marist College) produced a bases-clearing, three-RBI double to give the Hounds a 3-0 lead. Jared Brescia (Brentwood, N.H. / Exeter) stretched it to four on a sacrifice fly that scored Koster. Brescia then tied the game at six in the sixth inning on a ball sent back up the middle to score both runners on second and third.

-With two outs in the seventh, Adelphi took the lead for good on a double down the left field line by Lawrence Cicileo. Colombo then came up and scored Cicileo on a single to center to give Adelphi an 8-6 lead. The Panthers then scored six runs (three earned) off Hounds reliever Brendan Desautels (Holden, Mass. / Holy Name Central Catholic) on four hits and one error in the bottom of the eighth.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

-Brescia and Koster produced all of the Hounds' offense, adding three RBIs each. Brescia went 1-for-3 with a walk, while Koster went 1-for-4 with one double and one run. Brescia continued his hit-streak to four games, going 5-for-14 (.357) with four runs during that span.

-Kevin Quinlivan (Shrewsbury, Mass. / St. John's) got the start in left field and went 1-for-3 with one run and one walk. He came off the bench in his team's previous game and produced a two-run single as a pinch-hitter in the ninth inning. Quinlivan has made the most out of his recent opportunities, going 4-for-9 (.444) in his last four appearances with two runs.

-Chudoba finished his day after 6 2/3 innings, allowing eight runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out two. Chudoba has gone at least six innings in each of his five starts and has not allowed more than three earned runs any of those starts.
