Baseball Falls to NE10 Foe Bentley, 7-3

THE BASICS:

- Score: Bentley 7, Assumption 3

- Records: Assumption (3-6, 0-0 NE10); Bentley (4-6, 0-0 NE10)

- Location: Winter Park, Fla.

- The Lead: Bentley tallied five runs in the first four innings and held off Assumption, as the Hounds fell 7-3 to a familiar NE10 foe in Florida today.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

- Senior Mike Curtis (Wilmington, Mass. / Wilmington) fell to 1-1 on the early season, as he started and pitched 3.0 innings, allowing four runs (one earned) on three walks and three strikeouts. Curtis has been excellent in his first three starts, holding a 1.53 ERA at the helm of the Assumption pitching staff. Sophomore Kyle Autilio (Saugus, Mass. / Saugus) tossed the final five innings and surrendered three runs on eight hits and three punch-out's.

- Bentley put a three spot up in the second inning, as an error led to all three unearned runs. Assumption pulled two runs back in the top of the third when sophomore Jared Brescia (Brentwood, N.H. / Exeter) connected on a one out single to right field. After senior Quinn Moynihan (Worcester, Mass. / Lipscomb University) moved Brescia into scoring position with a sacrifice bunt, Classmate Andrew Jaehnig (Quincy, Mass. / Boston College) drove him home with a base knock. Junior Kevin Quinlivan (Shrewsbury, Mass. / St. John's) continued his hot start to the season when he recorded a single to left field, before a wild pitch sent Jaehnig home to make the score 3-2.

- Bentley regained its three run lead when they scored one run in both the third and fourth inning. The Hounds tried to rally in the top of the sixth when sophomore Derek Adamson (Chelmsford, Mass. / Chelmsford) and junior Trevor McQuade's (Westwood, Mass. / Xaverian) reached base with no outs. Freshman Dillon Koster (Woburn, Mass. / Woburn / Marist College) singled to left field to load the bases with one out, but a Hunter Tralli (Berlin, Conn. / Northwest Catholic) sac fly was all the Hounds could muster, eventually falling by the final score of 7-3.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Moynihan extended his hitting streak to six games, and has recorded a hit in every game this season but one.

- Jaehnig and Adamson each recorded a multi-hit day, as Adamson finished 2-for-4 with a run scored and Jaehnig went 2-for-5 with a run and a RBI.

- Brescia went 1-for-4 with a run and Koster reached base twice, drawing a walk and tallying a single.
