WORCESTER, Mass. – Assumption College junior catcher Andrew Jaehnig (Quincy, Mass. / Boston College) became the 11th player in the programs history to be named All-American when the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) selected him to the Honorable Mention All-American Team.
Jaehnig was the lone position player from the NE10 to receive the honor and was joined by Adelphi starting pitcher TJ Santiago and Le Moyne relief pitcher Josiah Gray on the Honorable Mention Team.
Jaehnig now adds All-American honors to his impressive resume, as he was earlier named Worcester Area Player of the Year, First Team All-NE10 as well as to the NBCWA, D2CAA and the ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region First Teams.
The junior raked at the plate this year for the Hounds, hitting his way to the East Region and NE10 batting title after batting a robust .401 on the season. He also owned the top slugging percentage in the conference and ranked third in the East Region with a mark of .637, which was .67 points higher than the runner up in the NE10. Jaehnig also finished second in the NE10 with 16 doubles and 63 hits, while ranking in the top ten in home runs (five), RBI (33), triples (three) and on base percentage (.449) all while recording a .975 fielding percentage behind the plate as the catcher. On the season, Jaehnig tallied 20 multi-hit games and reached base safely in 37 out of the 42 games.
