Greyhounds Drop 6-1 Final to New Haven

Worcester, Mass. (April 29) -- The Assumption College baseball team dropped a 6-1 final to New Haven on Sunday afternoon at Rocheleau Field.

The Greyhounds dropped to 12-27-1 on the season and 4-20 in the Northeast-10 Conference, while New Haven improves to 22-15-1 on the year and 13-11-1 in conference play.

Joe Lopes (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricksen) went 2-for-3 on the day, while starter Ben Hastings (Norton, Mass./Norton) was the hard luck loser, working seven innings allowing five hits and two runs, one earned. John Melville matched him pitch for pitch, working eight innings, allowing six hits and one run.

The Greyhounds took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on a sacrifice fly by senior catcher Tim Quinn (Paxton, Mass./Saint John's). The Chargers tied the score up at one on an unearned run, then ran away with the game with five runs in the final three innings.

The Greyhounds return to action on May 1 against Saint Rose. The game will begin at 3:30 p.m. in Garden, N.Y.
