Greyhounds Come Up Short Against Stonehill in 2-0 Final

Easton, Mass. (April 4) -- The Assumption College baseball team lost to Stonehill College, 2-0, as the Greyhounds bats were quieted on Wednesday night at Lou Gorman Field.

Senior third baseman Travis Smith (Coventry, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) picked up the lone base hit, a single in the seventh inning, as Stonehill starter Kyle Shepard one-hit Assumption, pitching a complete game shutout, striking out 11.

Assumption starter Zack LaRosa (West Hartford, Conn./Conard) pitched 4.1, allowing four hits and one run, while striking out two. He was relieved by Cody Rocha (Fall River, Mass./B.M.C. Durfee), who pitched 3.2 innings, allowing one run while striking out four. Rocha entered the contest with a runner in scoring position (second base) and one out and eventually got the Greyhounds out of a bases loaded jam to keep them in the contest in the fifth inning.

The Skyhawks scored one run in the second inning, and added an insurance run in the eighth inning, as Stonehill improved to 20-9 overall and 8-3 in the Northeast-10. Assumption fell to 6-13 overall and 0-8 Northeast-10 Conference. The Greyhounds will travel to Saint Anselm for a Northeast-10 inter-divisional matchup at 3:30 p.m. on Thurs. April 5.
