Napoli Slam Stings Yellow Jackets in Home Opener

Worcester, Mass. (March 21) -- Junior Nick Napoli (Medford, Mass./Boston College) hit a grand slam to lead Assumption to a 17-5 victory over American International College in the home opener at Rocheleau Field on Wednesday afternoon. Napoli finished with a 2-for-3 day, while second baseman Kelvim Sims (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic) went 3-for-4. Sophomore Ysander Figueroa (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech) went 2-for-6 with a two-run home run.

Assumption had 18 hits, while limiting the Yellow Jackets to nine in the victory. The Greyhounds fell behind 1-0 on an unearned run in the first inning. In the bottom of the second inning, Assumption  took advantage of two walks and an error, as Napoli stepped to the plate with one out and delivered a grand slam over the fence in right center field.

Assumption put the game out of reach with a seven-run fifth inning to take a 14-2 lead after five innings. 

The Greyhounds teams played even for the final four innings, with each teams scoring three runs on the way to a 17-5 final.

Senior Ben Hastings (Norton, Mass./Norton) pitched the first three innings while allowing one hit and one unearned run. Dan Bradley (Moodus, Conn./Nathan Hale Ray) pitched the next three innings and scattered five hits while allowing one run to pick up the win.

Assumption returns to .500 at 5-5 with the win, while American International College falls to 5-6 with the loss
