Assumption Drops Pair to Bentley and Saint Anselm in Florida

Winter Park, Florida (March 3) -- The Assumption College men's baseball team dropped a pair of games to Bentley and Saint Anselm on Saturday at Alfond Stadium.

Assumption fell to Bentley in the opening game of the day, 6-3, despite a strong outing from Dan Bradley (Moodus, Conn./Nathan Hale Ray), who scattered 10 hit and four earned runs over 6.1 innings.

After falling behind 1-0 in the first inning, Assumption rallied to take a 2-1 lead in the top of the third on a two RBI single by Kelvin Sims (Manchester, Conn./East Catholic).

Bentley answered with a run in the bottom of the third, and two more in the bottom of the fourth, and would not give up the lead after that.

Matt Metcalf (Warwick, R.I./Bishop Hendricken) and Santi Palmer (San Juan, P.R./Colegio San Ignacio) combined for 1.2 innings of scoreless work out of the bullpen.

In the second game of the day, Assumption fell to Saint Anselm, 15-6, despite a 4-for-5 day from leadoff hitter Ysander Figueroa (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech), who also scored two runs and picked up an RBI. The Greyhounds also got two hits and three RBI from junior Shane Keddy (Worcester, Mass./Worcester Tech) in the losing effort.

Assumption falls to 0-3 on the season, and will resume play on Sunday in a rematch with Bentley at 11 a.m.
