Quirk, Alley-Tarter Named Assumption Athletes of the Week

Worcester, Mass. (February 9) -- Women’s swimming freshman Shannon Quirk (Wakefield, Mass./Wakefield Memorial) and men’s track and field sophomore Jeremy Alley-Tarter (Oak Bluffs, Mass./ Martha’s Vineyard) have been named as the Assumption College Athletes of the Week for their performances in the week ending February 8th.

Quirk earns Female Athlete of the Week honors after a record-setting weekend for the Hounds as the swimming team captured its third straight Northeast-10 Conference Championship. Highlighting her meet was a victory in the 1,650 freestyle as she met the NCAA B Cut and set the Northeast-10 record in the event. In addition, her time ranks her among the top 25 in the nation in that event. She also finished second in both the 800 freestyle relay and the 500 freestyle, which were both NCAA B Cut times. Quirk also added a third-place showing in the 200 freestyle.

Alley-Tarter is the Male Athlete of the Week for the first time after setting his second school record of the season at the Dartmouth Classic. In the 500 meters, he finished third overall at the meet in a time of 1:06.54 to topple the previous mark by a margin of .80 seconds as his time is the fourth fastest in the Northeast-10 this season. The previous week, Alley-Tarter broke the 800-meter record at the University of Southern Maine Invitational as he finished in a time of 1:57.07.
